Canang Sari

12 February 2016

The Balinese people believe that their beautiful island is a gift from the gods and for this they give thanks, every day, with millions of offerings, known as ‘canang sari,’ in the form of tiny woven palm frond trays, lined with banana leaf and containing a symbolic assortment of rice, flower petals such as blue hydrangea and shredded pandanus leaves, and incense. Each canang sari is sprinked with holy water and topped with an incense stick, as it is the smoke that allows the essence (sari) of the offerings to reach the gods.
